Talk:Constraints
Started this page from scratch using Freedom through constraints blog post I had saved. I can't currently find a link. Feedback welcome on this approach welcome: I've taken out a lot of 'Conversational Blog' elements.
Is taking a substantial blog and using it as a basis for a wiki page a viable option? MikeHaber (talk) 21:13, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
I'm wondering if I should have used a template for this? MikeHaber (talk) 21:15, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Need to add content from https://www.cognitive-edge.com/returning-to-constraints/ MikeHaber (talk) 14:40, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
From the call we had, I'd picked up on the following typology breakdown:
- Endoskeleton vs Exoskeleton - Resilient / Robust / Triggers a phase shift - Contains / Connects / Exerts a force - Natural / Decided / Decision Process

Time and constraints
(Moved here from Slack) We might be missing the importance of time, with regards to constraints, for at least a couple of reasons. -----Luca OrlassinoT-A-L-K 16:57, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- Reason 1. Because some constraints can generically change over time. -----Luca OrlassinoT-A-L-K 16:57, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- Reason 2. Because time is inherent to the definition of some constraints. Example. You're walking in the wild in North Wales on a mid-winter day. It's 5pm,. You know from your map - or past experience - that the gentle slope ahead of you will turn into a vertical cliff just a few steps away from where you are. "North Wales", "Winter", and "5pm" are relevant to your decision to proceed. It's getting dark! Day-night, and seasons cycles work as constraints in orienting our decisions. Just as tides in a marine map are relevant to the sailor. Lifecycle (birth-death) is another example. Not all time-related constraints are cyclical, though. Due dates can be cyclical or non-cyclical time-related constraints, whether self-imposed, contextual, etc... An interesting feature of many cyclical time-related is that they can (often) be known with large advance. -----Luca OrlassinoT-A-L-K 16:57, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- If you share my same concerns, you may find this interactive map good for inspiration. -----Luca OrlassinoT-A-L-K 16:57, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
Sign
Proposal: one aspect to be considered in a typology of constraints is relative sign. In simple words, whether a constraint tends to, physically or metaphorically, make things closer, farther away, or keep a constant distance. Types could be: attractive, repulsive, and fixed-distance (not sure about the name for the last one). The term "sign" here hints at the analogy with positive, negative, and neutral. -----Luca OrlassinoT-A-L-K 07:51, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
- The underlying assumption, which should also be discussed, is that a constraint is a (property of the) relationship between two things. -----Luca OrlassinoT-A-L-K 07:51, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
