Gary Wong has over 45 years of experience starting with his career at a Canadian electric utility where he worked in engineering, line operations, business consulting and training roles.

He later joined Ernst & Young Consulting (now Capgemini Consulting) as a Senior Manager in Strategy & Transformation. During his association with the global consulting firm, he acted as a lead practitioner for Change Management in Canada and the local Knowledge Management coordinator in the Vancouver office.

Gary has operated his own independent consulting practice over the past decade focusing on complexity thinking and safety. He was introduced to the Cynefin Framework in 2008 and later co-developed a complexity-based approach to shape safety culture with Michael Cheveldave. He and Michael co-authored the chapter entitled “A Cynefin Approach to Leading Safety in Organizations“ in the Cynefin Book: Weaving sense-making into the fabric of our world released in 2020.

He has an engineering degree from UBC and an MBA from SFU. He also has been a certified Franklin Covey 7 Habits facilitator and an Edward de Bono Six Thinking Hats and Lateral Thinking instructor.

Gary is a regular contributor on the safetydifferently.com website and hosts a monthly Meet the Author webinar on The Safety View.
